It’s meal  2Go Friday and we are having once again as requested our Coconut butter Chicken with fresh Cilantro.  We also have a wonderful kale chick pea and brussels salad in a sweet rice vinaigrette and 3 different flavours of polenta pizza’s.  On the sweater side we have GF Carrot and Cream Cheese Cupcakes, GF/V Fresh Strawberry Vanilla Brownies, and a mixture of Coconut Chocolate  and Vanilla Chai and two mini cakes GG and GF vegan.

Avocado Salad with Chick pea’s(The Works) in a Maple Vinaigrette (No peppers), fresh GF/V Double Chocolate Strawberry Raspberry Frosting (variety of flavours), GF/V Devil Food Cupcake with Peanut Butter Banana Frosting(OMG Good), more peanut butter and Oatmeal cookies. We did not make or pizza as our shipment for our corn meal didn’t arrive. We apologize for this. :)

It’s funny how things come together, but you never intend it to happen like these gluten free vegan peanut butter oatmeal hemp cookies. They are so FUK’N good…  We will also have fresh strawberry frosting on our double chocolate brownies, and yes they are GF vegan. Some Chi-chai Brownies and much more.  Oh and it’s Salad day and it’s going to be a Spring Field sunny Salad in a lemon vinaigrette.   Here is a pic of one of our Mothers Day Brownie Cake.

Fresh tomorrow at FUK Flour. Our Friday Meal 2GO is GF German Sauerkraut and Bratwurst… one of my faves… We will also have a Chocolate Vegan GF Cupcake and a Vanilla with different frosting, Reg GF & vegan Brownies and one med size zima tomato dairy free crustless quiche. Also I made more Princes Addie Cupcakes for the coconut lovers.

 

Fresh at FUK Flour Thursday April 11th.

It’s polenta pizza Thursday… made with a tomato red pepper sauce topped with NY Turkey pepperoni (70% less fat), artichokes, green olives, mozzarella and provolone cheese. We also have GF/V Orange and Chai brownies, Caramel Chocolate Drizzle Brownies and by request from some of my oldest clients that have been with me from the beginning I made Princes Addie Cupcakes. If you haven’t had one of these then you missing a yummy recipe. I made these GF Vegan and made from pure coconut cream and coconut milk. As well I was asked to make them the way i designed them with organic cane sugar so they are lighter in colour and taste. We will also have some salads, cookies, date squares, and much more. Just to let you know we are now carrying Udi’s breads for the time being.

Our Salad today is Gluten Free Vegan Italian Chick Pea and Lupini Bean. This was our first salad introduced with chic peas, the one everyone loves. We also have Brownies and cupcakes, cookies and mini breads and GF Vegan maple fudge.

Our soup today is a fresh Butternut Squash soup made with organic spices and natural ingredients.  We named it after a client of FUK Flour and called it GF Butter Mel Up Soup.   We aslo have Fresh GF Vegan White and Chocolate Peanut Butter Jumbo Cookies, GF Carrot Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting, GF/V Cinnamon Raisin Molasses Min Power Bread and a Vegan Coconut Thai  soup for those who are allergic to dairy or eggs.

We went with a light meal today as spring is in the air and thought a Gluten Free Vegan Roasted Caraway Vinaigrette Quinoa Salad would be a nice change.  We also have fresh GF Vegan Peanut Butter  Brownies, GF Triple Chocolate Skor Brownies, GF Vegan White Peanut Butter Jumbo Cookies made with a natural low glycemic sugar, GF vegan Date Squares, and GF Vegan Cinnamon Raisin Hemp Molasses power Breads.

Soup of the day tomorrow is Yellow Split Pea Bacon Soup. This one is not vegan friends but wowzers on the lips. We also have fresh tomorrow more Vanilla Bean Cupcakes as they are a huge hit and my clients are requesting them. More Yummy brownies both Vegan and regular. We also made one batch of GF/V Moist Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcakes… Oh and our GF Maple Fudge made with Organic Coconut Palm Sugar.

Here is some helpful information for you chewing lovers out there.  As always I go directly to the manufacturer to find out for myself if their chewing gum is gluten free. Here is a list of chewing gum manufacturers that are gluten free, and or containing gluten. See a list of gluten free gum below.

Holy Crap Visited Ottawa Today With An Exclusive In-Store Tasting Of It’s Amazing Cereal

What a great day at Market Organics with Holy Crap, Kathy Smart and FUK Flour and of course GFO(Gluten Free Ottawa) is always with us too. This cereal is so addictive and healthy for you. It’s considered the most amazing breakfast cereal around, and is Gluten Free, Lactose Free, Sugar Free, Wheat Free, Salt Free, Nut free, Vegan Free and Kosher. I plan on making some yummy stuff with this cereal, and also selling it at my soon to open Gluten Free Bakery and Gluten Free Pantry. Meeting Holy Crap’s general manager Rob MacNeil with his 12-year-old son Liam was a pleasure today. Those two make quite a team and look forward to seeing them again, as well as my Queen of Gluten Free Kathy Smart. This cereal is high in Iron, dietary fibre, omega 3 & 6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, calcium and protein.  With all that said it is also GMO Free and all natural, being totally organic.  Holy Crap cereal is artisan made and I am proud to call it 100% gluten free.  It’s flavour is Cranberry Raisin Apple and what a delightful taste it is.  With one hundred and thirty calories per two tablespoons, six grams of fat, zero sodium, twelve grams of carbohydrate, six grams of protein, zero cholesterol  and 100% good for you.    Don’t let the name scare you as it’s just what the doctor ordered,   and if it’s the name that is stopping you from trying it then your missing out.  It was the most viewed and quickest Dragon’s Den business decision ever seen on TV.

Is Canada Heading Into A Gluten Free Society? And Happy Canada Day Eh!

It’s four days before Canada Day 2012 here in Ottawa, and after being at a few networking clubs that I am part of I have come to the conclusions that Canada is on a leap forward with Gluten-Free products.  Every day I am being asked question about what are the symptoms of Celiac or Gluten Intolerance, how do you know if you are allergic to gluten.  But this post isn’t about how we find out or what prevents this disease or allergy, it’s about how Canada is heading into a gluten-free society.

 

 

There are as many as 1 in every 100  - 200  Canadian poeple that have Celiac disease and as many as 300,000 Canadians could have this but remain undiagnosed.  Researchers are saying that gluten intolerance or people who suffer from a gluten sensitivity is becoming a hidden epidemic, and includes anywhere between 5% and 10% of the population.  Doctors and researchers haven’t yet come up with a current score or amount to suggest how many exact people have a gluten sensitivity but are not aware of it, since only one in four thousand-ish who suffer from celiac disease have actually been diagnosed, you can just imagine the grand scale of things, and how worse it really is when you include the undiagnosed cases of non-celiac, gluten intolerance and gluten sensitivity.  The problem here is Canadians are still being misdiagnosed and the main source of the problem could be Gluten.  Here are a few of my older post that can help you decide whether or not you should be check  for Celiac or Gluten Sensitivity; Gluten… What You Don’t Know Might Kill You! or  Gluten Intolerance Symptoms.

Below is a list of all the teams who’s products are gluten free. They are from Canada and the United States, and they will compete for the top rank of best rib choice, best rib sauce, best chicken choice and best chicken sauce. I just found out about THE INTERNATIONAL CHICKEN-RIB COOK-OFF 2012 being held at 240 Sparks Street Ottawa, Ontario. From what I hear some of the best BBQ food will be cooking up from today June 20th to the 24th. I was downtown this morning and the sweet smell of apple smoke was burning in the air. I will see you all there as my stomach could not resist the delicious gluten free BBQ smells coming from all corners of Downtown Ottawa.

There is going to be a lot of competition on Sparks Street Mall this week.  I was just speaking to Mr. Matt Smith owner of Gator BBQ.  They use to live in Naples Florida but now the business is in Port Dover Ontario. What a Great family the George Kefalidis has.  I spoke with wife Tina and daughter Jessy two of the family owners of Crabby’s BBQ Shack & BBQ Sauce.  George who is the main owner of Crabby’s had to drive so i got my information from Tina.  Tina states that their BBQ sauce is gluten free as well as most of their products.  If there food is as good as there charm you must try their BBQ.
 

After speaking with everyone today and hearing all about their special recipes and how flavorful they are, this is going to be one big competition going on and I want to taste them all.
