Market Organics Will Be Selling FUK Flour’s Delicious Helathy Gluten-Vegan Free Non Fat Added Banana Kiwi Pecan Breads… Now Thats A Mouth Full…

Category : Food, FUK Flour, Gluten Free Ottawa Announcement!, News

Big News- As of this Friday you can purchase FUK Flour’s Gluten-Vegan Non Fat Added Banana Kiwi Pecan Bread at Market Organics in the Ottawa Downtown Makret located at 126 York St, Ottawa, ON. Made with 70% Organic ingredients. These bread pack a punch filled with flavour and nutrients. Limited quantities so get them while you can. My Gluten-Vegan Non Fat Added Banana Kiwi Pecan Bread will not only keep you going throughout the day but will fill you with lots of vitamins and nutrients.

One of the small ingredients in this recipe is Maca Root.  The amount I place in my recipe is just enough to give it a sweet flavour and add some beneficial nutrients to your body and would not affect you in any way unless like any food you are allergic to it.  If you’re like me and have not much time in the morning to eat a balance diet then try my GF VF Non Fat Added Banana Kiwi Pecan Bread, it will keep you going for a while.

The Benefits
Maca powder come from the root called Lepidium mayenil: increases energy levels, increases libido, improves fertility (which is needed for those who are Celiac or Gluten Intolerance), balances hormones, reduces hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms, increases sexual functions and remarkably improves strength & sperm count (needed for men who are Celiac or Gluten Intolerance).

Things To Know About Maca
If you’re going to use maca powder as a daily usage then start  by using maca in small amounts, like about a teaspoon a day and then gradually move up after a week or two.  I would double  your intake each week until you get up to 2 tablespoons a day if needed. You can easily adjust dosages later according to your body’s needs.  If you have been using  maca for a long time  user, take a break occasionally, so that you don’t lose potency.

Nutrients
Maca Root is high in minerals (calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and zinc), sterols (6 found), up to 20 essential fatty acids, lipids, fiber, carbohydrates, protein, and amino acids.

Maca is not the only wonder ingredient in my breads, but I can’t tell  you all my secrets except they are amazingly tasty as they are good for you. Hope you get a chance to try my Gluten Free Bread / Vegan Free Bread.

A Possible Cure For Celiac Or Another Disaster Just Awaiting.

Category : Diseases & Gluten, News, Possible Health Risks

I’ll start off by giving a little one on one about Celiac disease. It’s an autoimmune and inflammatory condition that is initiated by gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley. When individuals with celiac disease ingest gluten, it initiates an inflammatory response which damages the lining of the small intestine. This is not the only response it creates, it also creates pain, bloating, internal bleeding, foul-smelling diarrhea, weight loss, fatigue… it can affect almost every system in your body, including your skin (eczema), hormones, bones, joints and the list goes on…

Now here is the latest news on a cure for Celiac. Researchers have found that humans have an inflammatory protein called interleukin-15, or IL-15 to keep it short and sweet. The IL-15′s task is mostly to regulate T-cells, and has been shown to increase the anti-tumor immunity of several specific kinds of T-cells, in other words, it helps to kill the cancerous cells. On the flip side, a surplus of IL-15 has already been involved in multiple inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis(RA). They’ve known about interleukin-15′s bad points for a while, and medications that block IL-15 are currently being formulated to treat conditions like RA. If you already made the connection with Celiac Disease, you’re smart, as it’s an inflammatory disease as well. When you read the article from WEB MD you will see why I made the nice comments below. Click Here for WEB MD Link.

Some of my views may come off strong, but my reasoning is that I have the knowledge and the research to back it up. I would like nothing more than to see this disease cured, but I think 15 years is not enough time to give ample research or proper testing when it comes to playing with genetics, or like some like to call it, Mother Nature. Another argument is that when dealing with genetics, they can cause mutations down the road, like found in some cases with lab mice.

What are they trying to do exactly? Well, they are trying to make genetic modification or alterations…oh yes the “G” word, that’s what I call it… G for genetic, but isn’t this how (possibly) Celiac and Gluten Intolerance all got started? By genetically altering wheat and other grains at a protein level. See my article on GMO & GE Foods Click Here.

This is what they are doing. Creating a block for a inflammatory protein called Interleukin-15 (IL-15) which is suppose to treat the symptoms of celiac disease, not just treat but prevent it in certain types of risk patients, but remember it wont cure everyone with Celiac. If you would like to read the press release or video please Click Here.

Now this wasn’t all that was found in the same study. They found that retinoic acid, or vitamin A derivative found in some acne treatments such as Retin-A and Accutane, is possibly another perpetrator in celiac disease. Retinoic acid acts as IL-15′s member, supplying the production of the protein and further intensifying celiac symptoms. Bana Jabri, MD, PhD, an associate professor of medicine and pathology and co-director of the Digestive Disease Research Core Center at the University of Chicago states that vitamin “A” may not be a great idea for certain celiac patients, and that even topical ointments containing retinoic acid can potentially enter the bloodstream and possibly putting the celiac patient at risk. If you are a celiac patient and who uses such products you may want to bring this up to your physician, gastro, or holistic doctor if you’re concerned, but don’t be threatened by this article, it’s was written For Ur Knowledge…

What I am trying to do here is increase awareness of Celiac Disease, Gluten Intolerance or Gluten Sensitivity, and hopefully get more people diagnosed properly. There are so many people who don’t even know they have it. If I had the choice of taking a pill or staying on a “A gluten-free diet,” I’d stay on the GF Diet as it is currently the treatment of choice.

Gluten Free Ottawa Is Reaching A Global Viewing With The Launch Of Gluten-Free Beginnings Easy Starter Guide

1

Category : Gluten Free Ottawa Announcement!, News

Gluten Free Ottawa is proud to be one of the resources for “Gluten-Free Beginnings Easy Starter Guide,” created by Kathy Smart, our local Queen of gluten free, and Lisa Cantkier, the owner of GlutenFreeFind.  Rose Reisman, owner of a Toronto-based gourmet catering company and leading health expert, also shares her wealth of knowledge about everything and anything to do with food and nutrition.  Dr.William Davis, who is renowned for his instant hit and New York Times bestseller of the Wheat Belly, is also an important contributor — his best-selling book brought so much awareness to the gluten free community.

To Purchase  Click Here or go to FUK Flour and purchase it in store.

Here is a little BIO on each person who has contributed to this GF Guide.

Kathy Smart BIO

Kathy was very young when diagnosed with celiac disease.  She has accomplished so many wonderful things for her community and in her life at her young age.   Kathy is known as Canada’s leading gluten-free expert, and was awarded as recipient of the 2012 Orleans Health and Welness Expo’s Leadership in Wellness “Eat Right Award.”  She is also the host and chef of the world’s first gluten-free and vegetarian TV show, ‘Live the Smart Way’ on Rogers TV.  Kathy has also become  author of the bestseller, “Live the Smart Way” Gluten-Free Cookbook, and continues to grow strong.  Kathy and I share many of the same views and met not long ago, but we are friends who work together when ever we can.  I could write a novel about the great things she does and and continues to do.

Lisa Cantkier BIO

Lisa was diagnosed with celiac disease as a toddler which at that time was quite rare. She began to focus her interest on helping others which led her to become the founder of GlutenFreeFind.com, a gluten-free online directory that provides easy accessibility for those living a gluten-free lifestyle.  We have many of the same passions from what I can see, and I look forward to meeting her one day.

Rose Reiseman BIO

Rose Reisman is a health and wellness entrepreneur who has taken her passion for healthy living and developed it into an enterprise of astounding variety.  With today’s unhealthy nation, she took the opportunity to share her experience and vast knowledge with others in order to inspire the integration of a healthy lifestyle amongst her followers.  She is the Author of more than 17 best-selling recipe books on nutrition and wellness and has sold over 750,000 books.  Rose has also launched “Personal Gourmet” – a daily, fresh food delivery service designed for people who want to eat healthy, great tasting food in the comfort of their home.  She has just launched a “Ready to Freeze” food program that delivers healthy meals to Canadians nationwide.  Rose also has Restaurant, “Glow” (Shops at Don Mills) in Toronto Ontario.  In my eyes, she has conquered what most people dream of, and as I have never  met her, I feel we hold many passions the same.

Dr. William Davis BIO

Again I have never met  Dr. Davis nor have I read  his book yet, but I plan to. He is a 1985 graduate of the St. Louis University School of Medicine and the Ohio State University Hospitals for training in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases. Dr. Davis trained in advanced cardiac catheterization techniques and coronary angioplasty in the Case-Western Reserve University system in Cleveland, Ohio. Not long ago, he left his field of training to conquer this incredible wheat free world.  Author of one of the most-known books of our time and a NY Times Best seller,  he has helped so many people, and as our beliefs are similar, I feel I have known him for years.

Gluten Free Ottawa BIO – Darren Potvin BIO

Darren was diagnosed in his thirties with Gluten Intolerance, but his family doctor believes with his past history of illnesses and symptoms leads his doctor to believes he is probably celiac.  He suffered with IBS symptoms, acid reflux, and always felt sick and bloated with abdominal pain.  He had about 12 of the common symptoms indicating gluten intolerance, yet today being 8 years gluten free suffers from none.  Prior to his diagnoses, he was sent from doctor to doctor to be told that there was nothing wrong with him. His search for answers began at the age of 18 and finally ended at the age of 31.  This was his prime motivation to help others avoid suffering the way he did for so long.  He then created “GlutenFreeOttawa,” a blog to spread awareness, knowledge and product information to those who suffered either from Celiac or Gluten Intolerance.  Due to his frustration of not being able to find good healthy GF foods, he opened up his own Gluten Free online bakery, FUK Flour, that carries a large array of healthy, delicious homemade gluten free goods.  From his gluten free date squares and decadent gluten free brownies, to gluten free lasagnas and fresh gluten free gnocchi…  there is no limits to what he can make, and he continues to “de-glutenize” recipes for everyone to suit their taste.

Kathy Smart and I at the 2012 Gluten Free Day at Market Organics
